My name is Regine Mueco and I work on EPCOR’s public safety program around stormwater ponds. We’ve had a recent report of activity on a stormwater pond in Andorra.
This is dangerous. Ice conditions at stormwater ponds are highly unpredictable and unsafe for any recreation. These ponds are engineered to collect and move melting snow and ice from streets and sidewalks, which often include salts and other ice melt products, making the ice unpredictable and dangerous. We’re concerned about public safety and are hoping you can share a message on social media or any other appropriate channel to help educate your community members about the dangers of stormwater facilities. Here is a draft message to share, but of course, you’re welcome to reword as needed:
Think Twice – Stay Off the Ice!
EPCOR contacted our community league recently about activity on a stormwater pond in our neighbourhood. Please remember, it is NOT safe to walk, skate, toboggan or play on stormwater ponds. These ponds are engineered to collect and move melting snow and ice from streets and sidewalks, which often include salts and other ice melt products, making the ice unpredictable and dangerous. Additional warning signs have been installed around the facility, but please talk to your family about the dangers of playing on or near these facilities. More information is available at epcor.com/wintersafety.
If there is anything else we can do to spread this message with your community, please let us know.
